Undersea Detective. The denizens of the deep are about to lose the ocean floor forever. That two-legged mammal has built himself a huge "fish" that will enable him to crawl about at the bottom with ease. Edmond Martine, of San Pedro California, hopes to begin exploratory diving soon with the 50-ton deep-diving experimental submarine he has invented. Called the Cetacean, , the sub is powered by a diesel engine for surface running and a 65 horsepower electric motor for submerged work. The hull of the craft is made of double walled honeycomb carbon steel construction that will easily stand the water pressure at a depth of a mile and a half. Observing and photographing will be done through seven portholes with specially-ground Corning glass. Each window is eight inches thick and a foot in diameter.
